Mountains in the morning, beach in the afternoon. This beautiful country wants to attract new tourists.

Bosnia and Herzegovina wants to attract beachgoers to the mountains. To achieve this, it must adapt its winter resorts to accommodate summer activities. These include resorts near Sarajevo, which could be an ideal haven for tourists seeking refuge from the Adriatic heat. Less crowded, quieter villages and towns are expected to attract both tourists vacationing in Neum and guests of Croatian and Montenegrin seaside resorts.

A new destination in the Balkans

Resorts in Croatia and Albania are unlikely to lose popularity in the coming years. However, tourists may be eager to swap the scorching Adriatic resorts for crisp mountain air, even if only for a short while. Bosnia and Herzegovina sees its opportunity here. Although it's increasingly bold in its winter tourism, with a mere 20-kilometer stretch of coastline, it still doesn't stand much of a chance against its competitors during the peak holiday season.

Hence the idea to promote resorts located in villages near Sarajevo, which would now attract year-round visitors, not just avid winter skiers. However, this is a long-term strategy and requires significant financial investment. "Currently, ski lifts operate year-round, offering picturesque views, and new hiking, biking, and quad biking trails are constantly being opened," writes The Independent.

Interest in unconventional tourism is growing

Interest in niche mountain and ski destinations is also evident among airlines. In a recent interview with "Wprost," Ryanair's Alicja Wójcik-Gołębiowska discussed the carrier's strategy, which will also focus on undiscovered and attractively priced mountain destinations in the future. Bulgaria will certainly be among them. The carrier already has a presence in Albania, where, in addition to beautiful beaches, you'll also find mountain slopes and trails.
