Members of the group U2 issued a statement on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Members of the group U2 issued a statement on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

"We're not experts, but we want fans to know our position on this matter," the members of the Irish band U2 wrote in a joint statement on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict posted on social media. They said the conflict had entered "uncharted territory."

The musicians of the band U2 decided to speak out about the conflict between Israel and Palestine in the Gaza Strip.

"Everyone has long been terrified by what's happening in the Gaza Strip. However, the blocking of humanitarian aid and now the plans for a military takeover of Gaza City have pushed the conflict into uncharted territory. We are not experts on the politics of the region, but we want our fans to know our position on this matter," they wrote in a statement.

After this introduction, each artist presented their own view on the situation and also declared their willingness to donate money for medical assistance for Palestinians.

Bono comments on the conflict in the Gaza Strip

U2 frontman Bono has openly described the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Hamas militants as pure evil. However, in his view, the retaliation for these events, which killed approximately 1,200 people, has become increasingly disproportionate over time and demonstrates a complete disregard for the lives of innocent civilians in the Gaza Strip. According to United Nations estimates, 61,000 Palestinians have been killed there as of August 6, 2025.

Later in his statement , Bono delves into the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and argues that Hamas does not represent ordinary Palestinian citizens, who have been marginalized for years and suffer the most. The musician also criticizes Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, seeing no justification for the brutal actions of his government.

U2 musicians accuse Israel of cruelty

U2 guitarist The Edge also addresses the Israeli Prime Minister directly.

"Do you really believe that such destruction – inflicted so deliberately and mercilessly on the civilian population – can happen without shame for those responsible?" he asks.

From his own experience, he points to the example of Ireland as a place where peace was achieved not through terror, but through joint talks.

In a statement, bassist Adam Clayton criticized the military methods used by Israel to achieve domination over the region, as well as the lack of will to save civilian lives.

Drummer Larry Mullen Jr., in turn, draws attention to the destruction of private homes and hospitals in Gaza, whose most frequent victims are innocent people, and the resulting famine.
