The simple hiking route to a spectacular waterfall surrounded by windmills in Galicia

The scenic beauty of Galicia is one of its greatest attractions. In these northern Spanish lands, we can explore countless hiking trails to discover unique landscapes, historical monuments, and charming villages.
For example, a very interesting itinerary is the Barosa River Waterfalls , a truly special enclave in the province of Pontevedra where Mother Nature meets the human touch. The site can be visited at any time of year, although the force of the water is greatest during the rainy months .
Barosa River Waterfalls RouteThe Barosa River Nature Park is the setting for this route, a key stop on the Portuguese Way of St. James as it passes through the municipality of Barro. The route is easy to walk, just 2.1 km long, and the starting point is the park's parking lot.

From there, we'll begin our walk, completing the first section of the trail from the Muíños de Abaixo to the San Breixo Bridge. Here, we can take a brief detour from the main road to visit the 17th-century church of the same name . Rejoining the path, we'll find more well-preserved mills.
In the second section, we pass through a recreational area with a tavern. From this point, a circular trail begins that crosses the A Búa Bridge and returns along the right bank of the river until returning to the San Breixo Bridge. But not before contemplating the majesty of the Barosa River Waterfalls , which reach a height of 30 meters, and the Muíños de Arriba , which complete the 17 mills we will see in the area. Furthermore, during the summer months, visitors take advantage of the natural pool created at the base of the waterfall for a refreshing swim.

The drive from Pontevedra to the Parque da Natureza do Río Barosa parking lot takes approximately 25 minutes via the N-550. From Vigo, it takes 40 minutes via the AP-9 and N-550.
