The mansion that you can now visit as a tourist and is a heritage element of one of the most beautiful municipalities in Cantabria

The town of Comillas is, without a doubt, one of the most incredible in the entire autonomous community of Cantabria. This village of approximately 2,100 inhabitants is included on the list of the "Most Beautiful Villages in Spain," and it's not just a typical coastal town. In addition to being located on the shores of the Cantabrian Sea, the urban center of this impressive town offers authentic treasures unique to the Iberian Peninsula, making it one of the best destinations in the country.
From impressive modernist buildings, including numerous palaces (such as the Sobrellano Palace) and even a work by Antonio Gaudí , El Capricho, to a spectacular university, wonders are around every corner in this Cantabrian town. Another gem hidden in the historic center of Comillas was the Mansion of the Duke of Almodóvar del Río, an imposing house that left tourists who came to the town in awe, even though they couldn't access it... until now, when it has opened its doors to the public.
The treasure that was yet to be discovered in Comillas
This fascinating palace was built between the late 19th and early 20th centuries (1899-1903) by order of the Duke after whom it is named. Built by Jerez-born architect Francisco Hernández-Rubio, it rises imposingly above Park Güell and Martos, specifically in the elevated area known as Prado San José. For many decades, it has remained closed to tourists, although it is still possible to enter its doors until September.
This impressive English Historicist-style mansion is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating buildings in the entire town of Comillas, although many have wondered over the years what lay hidden behind its walls and picturesque, asymmetrical exterior. Almost 125 years after its completion, it is still used as a summer residence by the family that owns it, although tourists will be allowed to enter during this summer season.
The Duke of Almodóvar del Río's stunning mansion is so incredible that it has been used numerous times as a film set, and now anyone who wants to can step inside this sublime movie palace that seems straight out of a fantasy story. This fairytale house is completely real, and a trip to Comillas to explore it (as well as the rest of the town's gems) is an extraordinary option for the spring months.
