Neither Níjar nor Mojácar: the unknown town of Almería with white houses and crystal-clear beaches

Neither Níjar nor Mojácar: the unknown town of Almería with white houses and crystal-clear beaches

The province of Almería is a perfect destination for all those who want to enjoy Spain's mild temperatures. Many tourists choose to spend a few days on vacation in the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula. It is in this part of Andalusia that we find a long list of coastal spots to relax on the shores of the Mediterranean. Níjar, Mojácar , Roquetas de Mar , etc., are many options, but there are also other lesser-known towns that are worth exploring.

Located on the border with Murcia and part of the municipality of Pulpí, San Juan de los Terreros stands out as an idyllic spot for a few days of relaxation. This fishing village is perhaps one of the least known in the area. However, it has managed to retain its identity despite the overcrowding that other nearby tourist destinations have suffered.

What to see in San Juan de los Terreros

Perhaps one of its greatest attractions are its beaches, which boast nearly pristine conditions . It also lacks large hotel complexes or promenades teeming with tourists. The municipality doesn't have a long seafront promenade like other coastal areas. Currently, you can see various summer homes, but it began as a fishing settlement. Its streets are narrow, and most have white facades.

Strolling through its narrow streets, you'll reach the town's small coves . It's common to find locals here taking the opportunity to leave their homes and swim in these waters. One of them is very close to the castle. It's known as Cala la Invencible and is accessed via the street of the same name. Then there are three more: Cala Costa Tranquila, Cala Cuartel , and Cala de la Tía Antonia .

Along with Mar Serena, Mar Rabiosa Beach is one of the most famous and busiest beaches in San Juan de los Terreros. It's a small, urbanized beach just over 250 meters long.

One of the interesting things to see is that off the coast of Almería, you can see two small volcanic islets that form the Terreros Island-Isla Negra Natural Monument . Visitors also shouldn't miss the castle .

This is a fortification that was built in the second half of the 18th century as part of the defensive plan implemented by Charles III to defend the coasts.
