An armed attack occurred in a cafe on Tolgahan Street in the Güngören Neighborhood.
Tuncay Meriç , President of the Alemdağ Sports Club, was attacked by an unidentified person while sitting in a cafe.
As the attacker fled the scene, police and emergency medical teams arrived after witnesses alerted them. Upon examination by medical personnel, Tuncay Meriç, who was found to have been shot in the head and seriously injured, was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that the suspect, identified as EH, was captured in an operation conducted in the Uzunköprü district center as a result of intelligence work and intensive surveillance regarding the murder of Tuncay Meriç, President of the Alemdağ Sports Club, while he was eating at a cafe in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Yerlikaya thanked those who contributed in a post on his social media account:
"I congratulate our Governor of Edirne, our Istanbul Provincial Police Chief, our Edirne Provincial Police Chief, our Edirne Provincial Gendarmerie Commander, and our Police and Gendarmerie officers who contributed. May God protect you from any obstacles."
