Although caravan travel is seen as a form of freedom, in recent years, increasing camping bans, municipal regulations and local practices have begun to seriously limit the boundaries of this freedom. As of the summer of 2025, many new practices regarding caravaning are in effect in Türkiye. Some see these practices as “regulations”, while others interpret them as “encirclement with bans”.

So where can you go with peace of mind this summer? Which cities are caravan-friendly? In which regions have fines increased? Here is the current caravan truth for the summer of 2025:

By the end of 2024, many municipalities have made the camping ban on the coast permanent. Especially in tourist areas, “caravan camping ban” circulars have been issued one after another under pressure from sunbed operators and hotel lobbies.

Even just sleeping on the beach with a caravan at night will be considered “unauthorized camping” and the following sanctions will be implemented in 2025:

  • Criminal proceedings through police and gendarmerie
  • Practices that prevent caravans from being parked even on the roadside
  • Vehicle towing, tent removal and fines in prohibited areas

Below we share the key areas where caravanning is either completely banned or severely restricted:

Region / Province Application / Prohibition Notes
Antalya Konyaalti Beach Overnight accommodation and tents are prohibited, penalties are applied Notifications have begun
Muğla / Bodrum – Gümüşlük – Yalıkavak line Caravan parks are completely prohibited, intervention is not required in case of overnight stay Tourism pressure is high
Izmir / Seferihisar & Urla coasts Tents and caravans are prohibited due to the protected area. There is a police inspection
Kocaeli / Kandıra coastline Banned in 2024, continues in 2025 Even 24-hour parking is risky
Çeşme and Alaçatı coastline Gendarmerie warning at entrances, staying overnight is prohibited Strict control especially in summer months

Despite all these restrictions, there are still some areas that remain “caravan-friendly”. Municipalities have started to provide services such as regular garbage collection, mobile toilets, shade and hot water showers in these areas.

Province / Region Explanation
Canakkale / Gokceada There are free camping areas, municipality-supported caravan parking is available.
Balikesir / Kaz Mountains surroundings Forest camping areas are charged but caravans are accepted.
Karabuk / Yenice Forests Suitable for caravan camping in nature, no restrictions
Giresun / Karagol Plateau Free camping area, access to water resources
Eskisehir / Musaozu Nature Park Special area reserved for caravan, reorganized in 2025
Artvin / Borcka – Camili line Special areas have been created for caravan and tent users.

For those who want to avoid the restrictions, here are some areas where you can camp for free:

  • Sakarya / Poyrazlar Lake surroundings
  • Kütahya / Domaniç forest recreation areas
  • Sinop / Akliman region
  • Isparta / Kovada Lake surroundings
  • Nigde / Aladaglar Foothills

The increase in restrictions has led caravaners to turn to official municipally-supported parking areas, which are usually paid but safe, shaded and have basic amenities such as toilets and water.

Suggestion: Check the website of the municipality you are going to and see if there is a “caravan campsite/parking lot”. Many municipalities switched to an online reservation system in 2025.

Safety Precautions in Nature Sports and Outdoor Activities

  • In all outdoor activities and nature sports, safety is your primary responsibility. No article or video can replace proper practical training and personal experience.
  • Especially in outdoor extreme sports, you are primarily responsible for your own personal safety. Always prioritize your personal safety and the harmony and safety of the team you are with.
  • In all cases, be on the side of nature , keep the environment clean, and never harm wild animals or the nature where wildlife lives.
  • While exploring natural and historical beauties, you should pay attention to some important points for your holiday to be enjoyable and safe. Before your trip, do detailed research about the region you will go to , check the weather conditions and take appropriate clothes with you. Never damage natural, historical and touristic places. Do not leave your garbage in the places you go, take your garbage back to where you came from in bags as you brought it or throw it in a garbage container.
  • If you are planning a nature trip, camping or outdoor activity, be sure to pack all the necessary equipment .
  • In Turkey, there are frequent bans on entering forests and some protected areas, and administrative fines are imposed on those who do not comply. You should verify current forest entry bans from the provincial Regional Forestry Directorates.
  • Technically, all outdoor activities in nature require prior permission. Our advice to our readers, campers, nature walkers and those who participate in all outdoor sports is to at least call the law enforcement authorities before starting the activity and inform them about the nature activity and routes they will be doing.
  • Your opinions, thoughts, suggestions and requests regarding outdoor and nature are valuable to us. Feel free to write to us.

We wish you a pleasant and safe nature/outdoor adventure! 🚴‍♀️⛺🌳🌲🚵‍♂️🏞️🌿🌄
