Internet users have voted for the worst beaches in the world. The top spot is shocking.

Hawaii brings to mind landscapes straight out of travel agency brochures. However, this exotic paradise has its dark side. As Internet users point out, the famous archipelago is home to "the worst beach in the world." This is Waikiki Beach, located on the southern coast of Oʻahu, which has a reputation for being overly crowded. Besides overcrowding, noise, dirt, and long lines were cited as reasons for the low rating. Two other beaches in the United States – Venice Beach and Clearwater Beach – also made the top five of this infamous ranking.

The most beautiful and the worst at the same time

Waikiki Beach in Hawaii is definitely causing a stir. Although it's considered one of the most beautiful places in the world , a recent ranking based on TripAdvisor reviews ranked it as the worst beach on Earth. It's undeniable that the views here are truly impressive – the clear water and towering palm trees separated by a wide strip of white sand are stunning both in photos and in person. What spoils this impression is the human aspect.

Due to its popularity, Waikiki Beach is simply overcrowded. Although it lacks the beach screens known from the Polish coast, there's a distinct lack of space for relaxation. The number of visitors also makes it difficult to maintain the beach's cleanliness. In their negative reviews, 60 percent of users mentioned crowds, and a staggering 67 percent mentioned long lines (for example, for restrooms).

These beaches are criticized by Internet users

In second place on the "worst beaches" list was the famed Venice Beach in Los Angeles, criticized primarily for its "pervasive filth." This wasn't the only US beach in the top five – Clearwater Beach in Florida also placed fourth. Playa Manuel Antonio in Costa Rica (number 3) and Bournemouth Beach in the UK rounded out the list.
