Gandalf and Frodo will return! New film from the universe confirmed

A new production from the "Lord of the Rings" universe is on the way. In the spring, we learned when "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" would debut in theaters, and further details about the film have just been revealed by the star of the cult trilogy, Ian McKellen. The actor who plays the wizard Gandalf revealed that his character will return to screens – much like the hobbit Frodo Baggins, played years ago by Elijah Wood.

Last year, news broke that electrified the multi-million-strong "Lord of the Rings" fanbase. It was revealed at the time that a new film set in the universe of Peter Jackson's iconic trilogy would be produced – "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum." The story will focus on the character of Gollum , and Andy Serkis , who portrayed him in the original film series, will not only reprise his role but also direct the upcoming film. Jackson will serve as producer.

Although the film was originally scheduled to hit theaters next year, in May it turned out that viewers would have to be patient - "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" will not debut on the big screen until December 17, 2027. The script will be written by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens , who co-wrote the scripts for both the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "The Hobbit," as well as Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou , co-writers of the animated film "The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim."

Ian McKellen on the new film from the "Lord of the Rings" universe

Ian McKellen , aka the unforgettable Gandalf the Grey , has now shared new details about the production. The actor, who plays one of Middle-earth's most powerful wizards, attended the "For the Love of Fantasy" convention in London on August 17th. During the event, the film star revealed that the actors will be returning to set next spring. He also revealed that his character will return to the big screen—much like the hobbit Frodo Baggins , played years ago by Elijah Wood.

"I heard there's going to be another film set in Middle-earth, which will begin filming in May. I'll let you in on two secrets about the cast: there's a character named Frodo and a character named Gandalf. Beyond that, I can't say anything more," the 86-year-old Kellen confessed.

The actor didn't specify whether he and Wood would reprise their beloved characters. The director of the upcoming film revealed in June that production was in "very early stages."
