The town of Tenerife with a rich heritage and a natural gem unique in the world

With the arrival of summer, everything comes down to making plans, packing our bags, and heading off to new destinations. But if you're not familiar with Tenerife, look no further because the largest island in the Canary Islands is one of the most complete places you'll find, with completely different landscapes, delicious cuisine, incredible beaches, and charming towns . And if you decide on the island of eternal spring, we suggest you don't miss Icod de los Vinos , a destination in the north of the island that, among other attractions, boasts a jewel of our natural heritage: the ancient dragon tree, the oldest known tree and a truly impressive one.

Despite being a small town, Icod de los Vinos has a lot to see, so we recommend dedicating a full day to it. Start with its beautiful historic center , featuring cobblestone streets lined with houses and mansions featuring traditional Canarian architecture. Other attractions include the former Convent of San Francisco , now the Municipal Library and home to a beautiful Renaissance courtyard, and the 17th-century Plaza de la Pila . It owes its name to the 18th-century fountain in its center. In addition, in this square, you can admire picturesque Canarian architecture buildings, such as the Casa Lorenzo-Cáceres , with its yellow facade and wooden windows.

One of the most striking places is the Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo in Cáceres, dating back to the 16th century. It has undergone several renovations over time. The town's nerve center, it features fountains and the Church of San Marcos , built in the 16th century on the site of a former hermitage and dedicated to the town's patron saint. We recommend you stop in to see it, as it houses the world's largest silver cross, almost two and a half meters high and weighing nearly fifty kilos.

A beautiful historic center, the Guanche Museum, and the Cueva del Viento are some of the reasons to stop in this small Tenerife town, which we're not exaggerating when we say is one of the most beautiful on the island. But Icod de los Vinos also boasts a treasure you can only see here: the ancient Drago (Thousand-Year- Old Dragon Tree), the most famous tree in Spain, more than 800 years old and declared a National Monument for its value. Located in Drago Park , it measures 18 meters and its trunk has a circumference of 20 meters. In addition, in this wonderful garden you can also enjoy botanical trails and magnificent viewpoints of the coast.

The Cave of the Wind

And we continue with nature suggestions, because this cave located at the top is another of the most interesting places not to be missed. It's a 17-kilometer volcanic lava tube of silent passages formed by the eruptions of Teide's Pico Viejo on the northern slope of the island. It's also where you can enjoy one of the best panoramic views of Mount Teide.
