The sky of Medis will be colored by its history

The sky of Medis will be colored by its history

On Thursday, August 14, the municipality of Médis is offering a free historical evocation in seven tableaux, from the Revolution to regained freedom.

The municipality of Médis is organizing a historical evocation on Thursday, August 14 at 10:30 p.m. at the Espace Médis Loisirs (rue des sports) with a free fireworks display that retraces the history of the town from the Revolution to regained freedom: "when the sky of Médis is colored by its history."

Comprised of seven scenes, the show will take the viewer on a journey through historical events that took place in Médis. They will be narrated by the young girl from the legend of the church bell. "It is said that the lord of Médis, wanting to have the most harmonious bell in Saintonge for his bell tower, had brought a renowned bell founder at great expense. He came to settle in Médis and promised to create the most melodious instrument ever heard, but..."

Freedom

Each scene will evoke different periods and events in local history. "Liberty" will retrace the Revolution and the Declaration of Human Rights, freedom of thought with the writer Émile Zola, freedom to act and fight (June 17, 1940), and freedom of peoples (World War II). The grand finale will evoke the freedom to have fun, to meet, to exchange, and to share. "This show is intended to be a continuation of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Médis commune but also a continuation of the armistice that symbolizes our freedom," explains Éric Renoux, the mayor of Médis.

"We believe it is important to raise awareness and remember, not only on anniversary dates, that the fight has been present throughout the ages. This show - When the sky of Médis is colored by its history - will also be an opportunity to introduce tourists, newcomers and younger generations to our local history, but also to assert ourselves in the landscape of fireworks festivals by bringing together as many people as possible with the aim of offering them a pleasant time with family and friends and to amaze children as well as parents and grandparents."
