Royan: Clémence David, a 17-year-old Breton, elected Miss Royan Pontaillac 2025

Royan: Clémence David, a 17-year-old Breton, elected Miss Royan Pontaillac 2025

The Miss Pontaillac beauty contest, which has existed since 1936, crowned a 17-year-old Breton girl, Clémence David, the only candidate not to reside in the Royan region.

As is the case every summer, the public turned out to witness the Miss Pontaillac pageant, which took place on Tuesday, August 5, at the kiosk next to the beach. The iconic title was awarded to a young Breton woman, Clémence David.

This beauty contest has existed since 1936 and offers ten young women, aged 17 to 21, the chance to win the coveted title by obtaining the maximum number of votes from the jury. It is now organized by the Pontaillac General Association, which actively participates in the neighborhood's entertainment. The festive and lively event attracted nearly 600 people, estimates the association's president, Chantal Émile, who, as is customary, randomly selected one person from the audience to also be part of the jury gathered under the bandstand.

Came for the occasion

"All young women who wish to participate are welcome. It's not necessary to live in the area, regardless of where they live," reminds Chantal Émile. However, the candidates generally all come from the Royan area. Except for the young 2025 winner, Clémence David, 17 and a half years old, who came straight from her native Brittany and didn't hesitate to make the trip three times with her mother to try her luck: for the information meeting, the fittings, and the final evening. Léonie and Leelou won the titles of 1st and 2nd runner-up.

"Friends of her parents live here and must have invited her to register because the family comes frequently. Nine candidates, instead of the ten initially registered, one of them having let us down, paraded on the esplanade in five different outfits: swimsuit, beachwear, nightie/camisole, suit, evening gown."

"We will be able to call on the winners if necessary during a trade fair or event, as was the case during the first "Your Best Market" competition." Between each performance, the artists from the La Castafiore cabaret put on a show. "A great success, appreciated by the public," the president continued.
