The imposing Marian sanctuary of Huesca located on the edge of a huge reservoir

With landscapes that are striking in their contrast, the province of Huesca is a place where even the most adventurous can make their dreams come true. Amidst valleys, natural parks, canyons, and mountains, you'll experience an unforgettable experience.
Nestled on the banks of the Cinca River, next to the El Grado reservoir, we find a very interesting place to visit: the Torreciudad sanctuary. This temple pays homage to the Virgin Mary, specifically to the patron saint of Our Lady of the Angels of Torreciudad.
Sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin of TorreciudadThe Torreciudad Sanctuary is a Catholic church dedicated to the Virgin Mary and opened for worship in 1975. Located 17 kilometers from the town of Graus and 24 km from the city of Barbastro, its name comes from an old watchtower from the Arab era, the ruins of which are located a few meters from the church.
Its construction was promoted by the founder of Opus Dei, Josemaría Escrivá. It is the work of architect Heliodoro Dols and features a variety of brick shapes created with artistry that exalts traditional Aragonese construction elements. Inside, there is a 12-meter-high altarpiece depicting various scenes from the life of Saint Mary. Likewise, in the center, there is a Romanesque carving of the Virgin of Torreciudad.
On the sides, you can venerate the medallion of the Virgin and the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, where a bronze Christ is displayed. In the crypt, you can visit the chapels of Guadalupe, El Pilar, Loreto, and the Holy Family, as well as a gallery of images of the Virgin brought by pilgrims from around the world.
Since 2020, visitors have been offered the opportunity to enjoy a museography that projects a video mapping of the altarpiece. They also have a mobile app that allows self-guided tours of the entire sanctuary. It is currently one of the most important tourist attractions in the area, even hosting organ concerts and other cultural events.
