Senate Budget Bill: 9 Ways it Impacts Travel

Although much of the focus on President Trump's tax and spending bill has been on tax cuts and changes to health care, the legislation is poised to have major implications for the travel industry.

President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful” tax and spending bill has officially passed the U.S. Senate.

While tax cuts, defense spending increases and massive changes to energy, health care and national debt policies headline the bill, the legislation also includes several notable changes that will directly affect the travel and tourism industries, a Skift review of the bill text indicates.

Here are 9 provisions to watch as the bill heads back to the U.S. House:

1: Air Traffic Control Upgrades

The bill contains $12.52 billion “for the purpose of the acquisition, construction, sustainment, and improvement of facilities and equipment necessary to improve or maintain aviation safety.”

The biggest ticket items include $4.75 billion for “telecommunications infrastructure modernization and systems upgrades” and $3 billion for radar systems replacement.

Other notable expenditures include $1.9 billion for “necessary actions” to construct a new air route traffic control center; $1 billion related to terminal radar approach control facilities; $500 million rel
