France Is the Most-Visited Country But Spending Trails Rivals

France drew more than 100 million international visitors last year, maintaining its three-decade streak as the world's most-visited country. But the nation's leaders acknowledged a problem: Many of those tourists aren't spending enough money.
France ranked fourth globally in tourism revenue last year, according to the French government. The U.S. led, followed by Spain and the UK. Despite France generating €71.1 billion (about $83 billion), an 8% increase year-over-year and a national record, it didn't attract enough high-spending visitors.
The revenue gap with rivals prompted French officials to unveil an ambitious plan last month. The country aims to increase its international tourism earnings to €100 billion by 2030, a 41% rise from current levels
