International tourism offices are together spending tens of millions of dollars this year to attract U.S. visitors to their home nations as the Trump administration's travel policies cause significant industry turbulence and tumult, according to a Skift analysis of Department of Justice foreign lobbying records.
From Thailand to Switzerland to South Africa, the nearly two-dozen foreign tourism entities provided varying levels of details about their U.S. operations during the early months of President Donald Trump’s second term — some comprehensive, others meager.
But taken together, the disclosures provide significant, if partial insight into the tourism goals of each nation and the techniques they use to market their destinations to a U.S. population that is traveling more internationally — while inbound tourism to the United States is declining.
