The Porsche 911 Turbo S will debut this year. It will get an electric boost.

Porsche is gradually updating its 911 models. The 992.2 generation debuted in May 2024, in the GTS guise. This is the brand's first sports car (not counting the 918 Spyder hypercar) with an electric drivetrain.

This year, the top-of-the-line model, the 911 Turbo S , is expected to debut in a similar configuration. The reason for electrification is obvious: more power and improved performance. Not that the retiring 911 992.1 suffered from this – it had 650 hp and 800 Nm of torque. Performance was also top-notch – the 0-100 km/h sprint took just 2.7 seconds, and the top speed reached 330 km/h.

Nothing is known about the drivetrain's parameters yet, but we can expect it to exceed the 700 hp threshold. In the aforementioned GTS, the electric motor's maximum power is 64 hp, and if it uses the same system, this limit will be easy to overcome.

Porsche's electric future

The battery capacity also remains a mystery. The one used in the lower-end model has a capacity of only 1.9 kWh and is unable to propel the car on its own. However, the vehicle's weight is certain to increase, so besides helping with acceleration, the battery will mainly compensate for this issue.

The technology will be developed by V4Smart , a company recently acquired by Porsche. The previous owner, Varta, created the high-performance battery technology that will now be featured in all of the brand's models – from the GTS, through the Turbo S and the all -electric Cayenne, debuting this year, to the sporty Cayman and Boxster.

The race for the crown of the Nordschleife continues

Since 1993, the Porsche 911 Turbo has had all-wheel drive. This is partly why it offers such uncompromising performance. How will the electric system be integrated into the Turbo's design philosophy? We'll find out this year.

As well as how much Porsche will improve its time on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife – the electrified GTS shaved 8 seconds off its already impressive time – the new time is 7:16.93. The 911 Turbo S's time so far was 7:17.30, so a similar improvement will position the electrified version between the hardcore Cayman GT4 RS and the McLaren 720S.
