A mysterious resort in Masuria. Why doesn't anyone visit it?

In the village of Kobyłocha in Masuria, right on the shores of Lake Sasek Wielki, thirty-three wooden cottages designed for tourists stand. However, no one has used them for about fifteen years. It turns out that the abandoned recreation center, discovered in 2020 by social activists from the "Miasto Jest Nasze" organization, belongs to the City of Warsaw. "It was built in the 1970s for the Polish Teachers' Union, then taken over by the Wola Community Center, and later by the Property Management Board," writes the Warsaw Report.
A beautiful resort in Masuria stands emptyWooden tourist cottages, a reception desk with a dining area, a beach, a pier, and a water sports equipment rental – all of this can be found today in the village of Kobyłocha in Masuria at the Recreation Center of the District Teachers' Cultural Center Warszawa-Wola. Despite its extensive facilities, this place has not welcomed regular tourists for some time, and not because of a decline in interest in the region.
According to the Warsaw Report, the abandoned, mysterious complex "has been empty for years." "Until 2010, the center operated quite dynamically. It even underwent renovations, but then closed," we read. The reason was financial problems.
"The center has been unused by the city for years. I'm surprised it's taken so long. Everything was supposed to be on track," says Melania Łuczak, a councilor from Miasto Jest Nasze.
Unfortunately, the planned 2024 land exchange between Warsaw and the Szczytno commune fell through when the commune unilaterally withdrew from the agreement. Negotiations are currently underway in a new format, with the participation of the State Forests. The city is considering renovations and new functions for the center, but decisions will be made only after the entire site has been acquired.
During the summer of 2025, for the first time in years, the facility in the village of Kobyłocha was partially used – students of the Family Support Center spent a summer camp here.
