A beautiful Polish shelter will return. The abandoned building will get a new chance.

Will another PTTK shelter soon be added to the list? The search is underway for an investor interested in fully renovating the shelter in Zwardoń. Initial renovations, which the decaying facility has been waiting for for at least fifteen years, have already begun. "Scaffolding has been erected on site. Work will continue until 2026, although it's possible it will be completed this year," writes Dziennik Zachodni.
The shelter in Zwardoń needs renovationZwardoń once had a beautiful mountain hut, but in 2010, the decision was made to close it. The PTTK "Dworzec Beskidzki" facility, located at an altitude of 710 meters above sea level and offering 68 beds, was closed after nearly eighty years of operation due to the financial problems of its lessee. Since then, the building has gradually fallen into disrepair. However, in recent weeks, a light has appeared at the end of the tunnel. As Mariusz Szewczyk, president of the PTTK "Karpaty" company, told Dziennik Zachodni, the first step will be to repair the roof.
"I certainly deny the rumors about demolition. We believe the best is yet to come for Zwardoń. The company is looking for an investor, and at the same time, we are trying to secure our own funds for a full renovation. EU, provincial, and KPO funds are being considered," says Szewczyk.
Another shelter in the BeskidsThe completion date for another Beskid mountain shelter was recently set. This facility is located on Magura Małastowska in the Beskid Niski Mountains. Its fate is similar to that of the shelter in Zwardoń – it closed in 2021 and remained open to tourists for several years with its doors locked and façade deteriorating. "We assume that in the first quarter of 2028, we will obtain an occupancy permit for the new facility and open it to tourists and all visitors to the Beskid Niski Mountains," Szewczyk said.
