With around 26,000 inhabitants, Caravaca de la Cruz is one of the most spectacular towns to visit in Murcia. The town's religious significance remains significant, as it houses a relic of Jesus Christ in its impressive basilica and celebrates a Jubilee Year every seven years (the last one was in 2024). In fact, it is one of the five holy cities in the world , along with Rome, Jerusalem, Santiago de Compostela, and Toribio de Liébana.

Its importance over the centuries led to the construction of stunning buildings of immeasurable beauty in its incredible historic center , as perfectly demonstrated by the town's crown jewel: the fascinating Basilica of the Holy Cross. This monumental church dates back to the 17th century and is nestled within another of the town's wonders, its magnificent castle. Furthermore, the Holy Cross is kept within the religious building, a relic found in the surrounding area centuries ago, which made it a place of pilgrimage.

In addition to the fantastic basilica, the town center of Caravaca de la Cruz also boasts wonderful churches, such as the Soledad, Santa Clara, and El Salvador, among many others. The town center of this Murcian municipality is an absolute marvel. In every corner, travelers will discover countless gems that make this town one of the most special in all of Spain.

Although any time of year is a good time to explore the municipality, the reality is that May is the year when one of the most incredible festivals in all of Murcia takes place : the Caballos del Vino (Wine Horses). This celebration, declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO , commemorates the anniversary of the Muslim siege of the town's castle. During this festival, the horses are adorned with all kinds of details, creating a picture that remains etched in the memory of all who see it.
