Wizz Air is the most sustainable low-cost airline in the world: top prices and respect for the environment

All united towards respecting the environment: the World Finance Sustainability Awards 2025 have given the opportunity to highlight those who are making a concrete commitment to making a difference. For the fifth consecutive year, Wizz Air has been awarded the recognition of the most sustainable low-cost airline. The company appreciated by users for its coverage, number of routes and competitive prices makes the difference by promoting a transition towards the Net Zero objective.
Wizz Air, the most sustainable low-cost airline of 2025The World Finance Sustainability Awards have concluded and Wizz Air has once again been named the most sustainable low-cost airline in 2025. For the fifth year in a row, the Hungarian airline has received the award, which was assigned based on several criteria, including environmental performance. Wizz Air has once again topped the rankings thanks to a series of concrete and strategic measures aimed at a profound transformation of its operating model.
Several aspects influenced the victory, starting from the active membership in the Zero Emission Aviation Alliance combined with the support of global climate initiatives, such as participation in COP29.
In 2024, the company chosen by 62.8 million travellers for its competitive prices, continued to expand by offering more and more routes and connections thanks to a green fleet of 237 aircraft, of which over 60% are Airbus A321neo models, which reduce fuel use by 20% and noise emissions by 50%. Great attention to technological and operational innovations.
Among those that have struck are smart solutions for fuel management, the use of electrical energy from the ground during stops and the introduction of lighter components on aircraft. But the real extra gear? A record: Wizz Air has lowered average carbon dioxide emissions to just 52 grams per passenger.
Yvonne Moynihan, Corporate and ESG Officer at Wizz Air, said: “ We are honoured to receive this prestigious recognition for the fifth consecutive year. Wizz Air’s approach to sustainability is embedded in every aspect of our operations, from advanced fuel efficiency to our continued drive for innovative technologies. As outlined in our recently launched Flying Towards Net Zero plan, we believe that the path to net-zero aviation depends on collaborative innovation between policy makers, fuel producers and the entire industry ecosystem. ”
Sustainable Development Goals Progress Report 2025The United Nations report showed that only 15% of the goals set by the 2030 Agenda are on track; an alarming figure that, despite allowing us to reward virtuous examples such as Wizz Air, underlines how much commitment is still needed from everyone.
Climate change is now clear for all to see: record-breaking forest fires, damage to biodiversity and an increase in natural disasters can only be countered with decisive action. There has been no shortage of encouraging signs: for example, reforestation and conservation initiatives have taken place in Southeast Asia and many parts of Africa . Sustainability has become part of many companies, some of which operate in the travel sector. Companies such as Aeroporti di Roma and Amex GBT Egencia have been able to integrate sustainability into their operations, helping to transform the sector.
