Orthez Festival Bullfight: Juan de Castilla, a constant desire

Orthez Festival Bullfight: Juan de Castilla, a constant desire

Faced with the toughness of the cattle presented for this bullfight on Sunday, July 27, the three bullfighters, Luis Gerpe, Juan de Castilla and Frenando Montero, faced it with pride.

Luis Gerpe : silence and applause. Juan de Castilla : 1 ear and lap. Fernando Montero : silence and 1 ear.

Three bulls from Dolores Aguirre ( 1st , 5th , 6th ) and three bulls from Veiga Texeira ( 2nd , 3rd , 4th ) braved in 14 encounters against the picadors (including 1 fall) who were encastés and very demanding for the bullfighters. The sixth, named Yeguizo, was honored with a posthumous tour of the ring.

It was under a drizzle worthy of English lands that Luis Gerpe (white and gold) defeated the first bull of Dolores Aguirre, with honors. With the sun back, the Toledan bullfighter was able to show off all his classic technique and his desire to triumph against the fourth, most devious bull.

Facing the difficult second place finisher, a bull from the Portuguese breeding farm Veiga Texeira, Juan de Castilla (black and silver) gained the upper hand over his opponent: with his left hand hanging like the scales of a clock, he led his bull with his right hand. This ability to impose his will on his opponent allowed the Colombian matador to be subsequently rewarded with a trophy. This bullfighter then faced a very serious bull from Dolores Aguirre, showing a constant desire and captivating the audience.

Having left to wait in front of the bullring for his first bull, Francisco Montero (red and gold) had the intelligence to highlight his opponent. Brave, the bull charged the picador with glee three times, before offering well-aimed charges for his matador. With the sixth bull, from the Dolores Aguirre ganaderia, Francisco Montero managed to make his opponent shine by giving him some distance so that he could express his bravery.

The character of the bulls of Dolores Aguirre and Veiga Texeira provided emotion throughout this bullfight at the Orthez Festival. Beyond the results, let us praise the courage of the bullfighters in the paseo and their cuadrillas, skilled in the face of the danger presented in the ring.

The stands are almost full. From downpour to calm.
