Mercedes GLC 400 4Matic, he shifts into second gear

Alongside the current GLC, the company with the star will offer an electric model with multiple technological refinements, placing it at the top of the SUV hierarchy.
Mercedes didn't come empty-handed to the Munich Motor Show. In the home of its longtime rival BMW, the company with the star was keen to demonstrate its leadership in meeting the challenges of electric propulsion. Coming directly from the Nardo circuit, where it has just set a series of distance records, the Mercedes AMG GT XX concept sits in the middle of the structure erected in the inner courtyard of the Apothekenhof, in the historic center of the Bavarian capital. This study will give birth next year to an electric sports sedan packed with technological innovations. But the highlight of the Mercedes presentation evening held the day before the press opening of the show was the announcement of an unprecedented model offensive. Ola Källenius, its president, formalized the launch of 40 new models and model upgrades by 2027. This new range will include electric, plug-in hybrid, and combustion-engine vehicles. As we know, Mercedes, like many of its competitors, is deciding against switching its entire range to electric, mainly due to a lack of European demand and a global presence. In the field of electric propulsion, Mercedes is also deciding against distinguishing the models' designs. Thus, the silhouette of the new electric GLC unveiled in Munich is close to the current GLC introduced in 2022.
While the battery-powered GLC's styling is evolving smoothly, it's immediately noticeable thanks to its illuminated chrome grille and, at the rear, its light strip with round lights housing a star. Parked next to the current GLC, this new SUV, based on a specific 800V platform, boasts a more generous size. Around a wheelbase of 2.97 m (+ 84 mm) improving habitability, it measures 4.84 m in length.

The interior presentation features a huge 39.1-inch horizontal panel running the entire width of this SUV. It's the largest screen in a Mercedes to date. All vehicle functions will be managed by an AI-powered supercomputer. The electric drive system frees up 128 liters of storage space under the front hood, bringing the total trunk capacity to 698 liters. The highly refined electric GLC will be available with air suspension and four-wheel steering.
Launched in the first half of 2026, the 400 4Matic version with 489 hp and a 94 kWh battery boasts a range of 713 km thanks in particular to its two-speed transmission and a peak charge of 330 kW, which would allow 303 km of range to be recovered in 10 minutes. This GLC is the first in a family of five models.
