What to see in Rhodes in a weekend between beaches and history

If you decide to travel to Greece, you can't leave Rhodes, one of the Mediterranean country's most famous islands, off your itinerary. Located in the middle of the Aegean Sea, it boasts warm, bright sunshine almost year-round, as well as paradisiacal beaches and a wealth of history.
According to Greek mythology, Helios, the god of the sun, fell in love with the nymph Rhodes, and when his light shone upon her, she was transformed into the island of Rhodes. A land with 300 days of sunshine a year, it's ideal for a magnificent and unforgettable vacation.
The island is world famous for having housed the famous Colossus of Rhodes, a great statue of the god Helios destroyed by an earthquake in 226 BC, but every corner of it breathes mythology, history and culture, housing tourist attractions of great interest.

The first step is to explore its namesake capital. In 1998, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and today it is one of the best-preserved walled cities in the world . A stroll through its streets inevitably transports you back to the 15th and 16th centuries. The most interesting and impressive building is the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes.
On the other hand, Lindos is one of the most beautiful villages on the island. It was built on a huge rock 116 meters above sea level. Located 50 kilometers south of the capital, it will take you about an hour to get there.

It's recognized as an important archaeological site, with a landscape filled with whitewashed houses lined with taverns and shops, and narrow streets. A must-see during your visit to this town is a visit to the Acropolis , which offers beautiful views of the town and the sea.
From Cape Prasonis to St. Paul's BayCape Prasonis is located in the south of the island and is known for its golden sandy beaches and strong winds, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and windsurfers and kitesurfers.

St. Paul's Bay, located very close to Lindos, is the most beautiful bay on the island. An unforgettable destination with a white sand beach and crystal-clear turquoise waters separated from the open sea by rocks. Most of the beach is private, and you'll find a beautiful little chapel where weddings are held every year.
Other famous beaches in the area are Faliraki and Tsambika. Both have fine sand and crystal-clear waters. The latter is an ideal destination if you're traveling with children due to its shallow depth and pleasant temperatures.
The best option for exploring the island is to rent a car and navigate its roads, which are also very good for driving. Alternatively, if you prefer public transportation, buses are the ideal option. In that case, to find the most convenient route, there are several tourist information offices that can provide you with all the information on available routes.
