Sleeping in a cave at 20 degrees all summer: these are the troglodyte houses with jacuzzis in Guadix.

One might be tempted to think that a cave house is an inhospitable place, with few or no amenities and completely unadapted to the modern conditions found in, let's say, conventional homes. But anyone who thinks this way is completely mistaken: there are cave houses in Guadix (Granada) that have everything.
And since we're asking ourselves questions: is an outdoor pool a good idea? Many rural accommodations have them, and it's not that difficult to build one on the plot surrounding the cave. It seems more complicated to find something as comfortable and pleasant as a jacuzzi inside. Well, there's that too.
Guadix, a city in Granada that is the capital of the Altiplano region and has more than enough attractions to deserve a visit, boasts, at its highest point, a neighborhood called the Caves . Not for nothing, but because there are around two thousand registered caves there. Many are occupied year-round by locals, but many others are rented seasonally and are a major tourist attraction.
For several reasons: the main one, both in winter and summer, is its almost constant temperature: between 18 and 20 degrees . That means that when the heat hits, it's absolutely wonderful inside. And when the temperature drops, which in Guadix sometimes means below zero, it must be said, it's absolutely wonderful inside.

An (optimistic) warning for those concerned about the potential for air tightness, those prone to claustrophobia. The cave houses, for obvious reasons, only have one exterior door, but there are strategically placed vents, and you never feel short of breath . Thousands of users, however, highlight another advantage: the lack of outside noise allows you to breathe in the silence.
It's time to give some examples. For example, Cortijo La Tala , which operates as a two-star hotel with apartments for two, four, or more people. It offers private parking, a barbecue area, and a pool. The upper cave with a hot tub, which has a private patio with mountain views and includes a bed, a sofa bed, and a futon, is being offered this August for €176 for two nights.
In Alcudia de Guadix, a hamlet very close to the city, is The Exclusive Royal Andalusian Cave , a three-bedroom cave chalet that also includes a jacuzzi. The apartment measures 100 square meters, has terraces with views of Guadix, and all the amenities of a hotel, including private parking. The entire house rents for two nights for 432 euros.
Hacienda del Marquesado has a garden, terrace, Wi-Fi, free parking, and bubble baths, among many other features. It's considerably cheaper than the aforementioned rooms because the deluxe room, with one double bed and one single bed, is offered at 115 euros for two nights. It's not located in Guadix, but in Albuñán, a very nearby town. Another nearby town is worth a visit, called Jérez del Marquesado. This is a town with an accent on the first e.

As mentioned at the beginning, there are two thousand caves in Guadix and many more scattered throughout nearby towns, such as those mentioned above or Purullena. It's a matter of looking and selecting, while keeping two things in mind: first, that man doesn't live by caves alone, and that the trip can and should also serve to visit nearby places with plenty to see .
Guadix, for example, boasts an impressive cathedral, called the Cathedral of the Annunciation, designed by architect Diego de Siloé and built between the 16th and 18th centuries, combining Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical elements. A gem both inside and out, it would be unforgivable to overlook it.
And speaking of heights, another highly recommended idea is to take a hot air balloon ride over the area. Guadix is the gateway to the Geopark, a vast expanse of 4,722 square kilometers that also encompasses the regions of Baza and Huéscar . It's an area of enormous geological wealth that's perfectly reminiscent of Cappadocia, Turkey.
The Geopark is also called badlands, due to the tendency to use Anglophilic terms, and is an arid landscape formed by soil erosion since the Quaternary Period. Although there appears to be nothing there, many activities can be enjoyed. One of them is a hot-air balloon flight . In Guadix, there are companies that take visitors on an adventure. Thus, travelers can go from the interior of a cave to the great outdoors in a single day. Quite a privilege.
