500 Euro fine: Holiday resort on Lake Garda takes action against pushy waiters

In the holiday resorts, tourists are no longer as flush with cash as they once were. Restaurants on Lake Garda are also fighting for every customer. In Torri del Benaco, a new regulation has been introduced.
A real battle for customers has broken out there. So-called "acchiappini" – waiters or specially hired staff – are sometimes aggressively courting customers, approaching tourists, and trying to lure them into the restaurant. In Torri del Benaco on the eastern shore of Lake Garda, this behavior is now being punished, as Südtirolnews reports.
"We want guests to be able to freely choose where they eat," says Mayor Stefano Nicotra. Restaurants that violate the ban face fines of between €25 and €500. Distributing flyers in front of restaurants will also be prohibited. The municipality of Bardolino on Lake Garda recently passed an ordinance requiring quiet hours from midnight.
In Limone, there is now an ordinance prohibiting the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages in certain places. This applies to streets, squares, gardens, parks, public or publicly accessible areas, and their surroundings. The regulation applies throughout the municipality from midnight on April 19th to midnight on November 1st of each year.
