For those looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of the city, there’s one place that’s just perfect for a small break - with April being a recommended month to visit.

With rugged cliffs and beautiful white sands lapped by turquoise waters, and a population of around 500 residents, in West Cornwall, the Cornish village of Porthcurno is one of those must-see places.

In the late 19th century, it began receiving a lot of attention from visitors. Its name translate to 'cove/landing place of pinnacles or horns.' It's also well-known for its open-air theatre up on the cliffs, and an unbelievable view of the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop. An interesting fact about Porthcurno is that it’s one of the UK’s most photographed beaches.

Around the village, visitors can find shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs, such as the Portochuno Beach Cafe, the Logan Rock Inn and the Apple Tree Café.

A must-see in Portochuno is the Telegraph Museum, where visitors can learn more about how it played an important part in telecommunications back in time.

In Portochuno there are two main local beaches, one being Portochuno with soft white sand and turquoise waters, as well as breathtaking views from the cliff.

Another beach is Pedn Vouder, which means ‘end of lane.’ It was also named one of the best beaches in the world, and getting in there is a challenge as it can involve climbing. Both beaches are good for swimmers, although the waves can be very powerful.

For those who are interested in outdoor activities, South West Coast Path National is one of England’s national treasures. It stretches 630 miles from Minehead to Somerset.

It goes through destinations like Padstow, St Ives, Newquay, Falmouth, Plymouth to Brixham, Exeter, and Lyme Regis to Poole on the Jurassic Coast.
