Vox politician say she was kicked out of the party due to machismo
Rocío Monasterio, former leader of the Madrid branch of Spain's party Vox, said on Monday that she was forced to leave the far-right group last year due to male chauvinism, referring to Vox as a "cult".
"They kicked me out, but it was because of sexism. I asked why they kicked me out, if it was because I was Iván's (Espinosa de los Monteros) wife. And they told me yes," she said in a podcast called El Común de los Sentidos.
Espinosa was also one of the top figures in Vox but left the party in 2023 for was what were believed to be differences with the most conservative branch of the movement.
Vox is a traditionalist party which has consistently claimed that gender violence doesn't exist and has called for the country's Equality Ministry to be dissolved.
Most recently they proposed deporting 8 million migrants from Spain, including legal residents.
