A mum flying from Tenerife to Bristol was removed from the plane by police after a faulty card machine left her unable to pay £7 for Pringles. Ann-Marie Murray, 55, was shocked after the police were called by flight crew due to her inability to pay her bill. The incident happened on a Ryanair flight on March 28 when the card machine would not accept her payment.

The passenger had no cash so she was unable to pay for the Pringles she had already eaten. Three police officers arrived after landing and put Murray in the back of their van. The airline has said that the decision to call the police was taken after "a passenger became disruptive". However, Murray said that she was not being disruptive and that there were "no raised voices". She explained: "I was doing my best to pay. I tried to tap and pay, but the machine didn’t work.

They tried with another machine and when it still didn’t go through I offered to get cash when we landed but they said I couldn’t do that."

Her partner said that they asked a member of the crew if they wanted the Pringles back but they were told that they weren't required to return them and the crisps were then eaten. Murray added: "I thought it was a joke when the crew said they had called the police.

"I was shocked when the police came onboard and we were asked to leave. It was so embarrassing. I had done everything I could to resolve it.

"They then told the police I had refused to pay, but that wasn’t the case. I wanted to pay, but my card didn’t work and I had no cash."

The Gloucester woman had been visiting the Canary Islands with her partner for a four-night mini break and was flying home when the incident took place.
