Air New Zealand Buys ‘High-Integrity’ Carbon Credits After Years of Hesitation

Air New Zealand has made its first major carbon credit purchase, acquiring 8,000 tonnes of carbon removal credits from native forest projects, a cautious step into a market it had long resisted.

The credits were purchased through a partnership with the local firm My Native Forest.

Kiri Hannifin, Air New Zealand’s chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer, said that the airline had “waited a long time” to make its first purchase because of concerns over the credibility of many carbon credit schemes.
