Venetians are furious with tourists. They paralyzed the city.

Venetians are furious with tourists. They paralyzed the city.

Veneto is one of the most popular destinations in Europe, almost never lacking in tourists. It's no wonder, as the capital of this Italian region is renowned for its canals, bridges, and unique atmosphere. Its unique atmosphere and remarkable cultural and historical heritage also attract people from around the world. Those seeking an unforgettable and romantic adventure also flock to this part of Italy.

And although Venetians are generally polite, many feel they're becoming increasingly distant from visitors. They feel overwhelmed—especially now that tourists are taking advantage of cheap gondola rides to get to the other side of the Grand Canal. They recently devised a way to visit a local attraction for next to nothing. However, this causes enormous queues.

Italy. Venetians are furious with tourists. They are protesting.

The situation of frustrated local residents was covered in detail by the daily "La Repubblica." Venetians wanting to cross the canal now have to wait in long lines. In the city center, gondoliers offer a special service that operates only on a short section of the Canal. This service is public and costs locals only €0.70 (about three zloty). Visitors pay a little more – €2, or – at the current exchange rate – 8.50 zloty. This is a great deal. Normally, such a trip costs several dozen euros.

Not only has the gondola ride here become incredibly popular, but the opportunity is also fueled by influencers on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. This has led to a near-paralysis. It's no wonder, then, that residents are protesting. The response to the outrage has so far been to increase the number of cruises, but this doesn't solve the problem.
