A stinking problem on paradise beaches. A difficult season is coming here

The place in question is of course one of the most popular and hottest states in the USA. Even if Poles do not go there in large numbers, many dream of such a stay and taking advantage of the local beaches. If you have thought about it, it is better to wait and approach the matter with caution. It turns out that in some cases it may be more pleasant to relax by the Baltic Sea . The point is that currently more and more beaches in southern Florida are covered in rotten algae. Tourists and locals are bothered not only by the appearance, but above all by the smell.
Problematic algae on beachesIt all started in March. The algae appeared gradually, until it became exceptionally abundant. Local media reports that it is now a mass of sargassum that stinks and makes life miserable for locals. "When it gets here, it's rotten, so the smell is really awful," one tourist told CBS News. She added that the algae attracts a lot of sea animals, which makes beaching much more difficult.
The problematic algae look distinctive. They are brown in color and slimy to the touch. They usually come to the United States from the Sargasso Sea every spring. For beachgoers in Florida, they mean the forced abandonment of vacationing in a given place. Their presence also deters tourists who have come or are planning to come there.
It is worth noting that this is just the beginning of the holiday season, and it is already unpleasant. Experts' studies show that this year, it will be particularly difficult to vacation in Florida.
A season full of challengesIt looks like Florida beachgoers will have to be patient. University of South Florida oceanologist Chuanmin Hu said the algae influx this year is particularly severe, making the situation more difficult than usual. “Rotten kelp, like all decaying plants, will attract insects and provide a habitat for bacteria,” he explained. He added that water quality will also deteriorate.
According to him, by the end of April this year, an unprecedented amount of kelp had appeared on Florida beaches. Forecasts indicate that in the near future we may encounter 40 percent more kelp than last season.
This problem is troublesome not only for vacationers, but also for the authorities. The cost of cleaning beaches from algae is very high - in 2022 it cost many millions of dollars.
