New video series: learn about mulching and reusing in the garden

How can you create a green oasis full of life? And how can you increase biodiversity in your garden with recycled materials? In the new video series of Gardeners' World together with the experts of Bio-Kultura, you will get answers to these questions from their organic Kwekerij van Houtum in Doorn. Watch the first episode now!

This first episode takes you through all sorts of ways to reuse material in your garden and cover the soil, such as with a mulch. Mulching is covering the soil, which makes it dry out less quickly and makes more moisture available for plants. The material is eventually decomposed, which releases nutrients to plants and improves the structure of the soil. And very handy: it can also help against weeds !
Grower Unze shows an example of mulch from Bio-Kultura. “This mulch mix consists of various woody materials such as wood fiber, elephant grass ( Miscanthus ) and tree bark. This makes the mix more versatile and provides more nutrients.

You can also easily make your own mulch with grass, weeds (without seeds!) or pruning material from your own garden. An advantage of this is that you maintain biodiversity , because insects stay in your garden and do not end up in the container with the pruning waste.
Grower Unze shows in the video what you can reuse. “You want the material to be smaller (…) So you are going to cut it smaller.” He gives another surprising tip: “You can even use ground elder as mulch. But of course you don’t want the roots in it, so use the green part of the plant.”
