Ryanair updates its measuring devices for the new carry-on baggage size: this is what they will look like now

Ryanair updates its measuring devices for the new carry-on baggage size: this is what they will look like now

Ryanair has announced that they will be updating the baggage allowance to 5 centimeters wider for the free baggage allowance, but they say it will take a couple of weeks to implement these changes.

The company points out that this measure is part of a recent agreement among airlines to adopt a new size for carry-on luggage. Thus, since August , the Irish low-cost carrier has increased the size of luggage allowed on board its planes to 40 x 20 x 30 centimeters. Furthermore, the capacity has increased from 20 liters to 24 liters.

Ryanair was the initial pioneer in introducing a charge for carrying cabin bags on board and defends its policy by arguing that not all passengers want to travel with so much luggage, and that it would therefore be unfair to charge them for services they don't use . However, this measure has also been adopted by other low-cost airlines in Europe, sparking debate in several countries. In Spain, it has been fined by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and ordered to withdraw it, although this fine has been appealed and, therefore, will not be applied until a court orders it to do so.

At the passenger level, Ryanair has received numerous criticisms for its usual baggage measurement before boarding. If the baggage a passenger is carrying does not meet the established measurements, whether it's a small piece of luggage or a pre-paid cabin bag, the company charges passengers an additional fee. Therefore, the company has decided to update its baggage measurements, giving passengers more leeway to choose their luggage.
