Video. Jazz in Andernos: A roaring, groovy start

Video. Jazz in Andernos: A roaring, groovy start

The 52nd edition of the festival has been a success and the weather is perfect for the moment. From Seeds to Flora Estel and the Wave Jazz Band, the artists have set the place on fire. Another day of concerts this Sunday

It's 11:30 a.m. this Friday, July 25th, on Place du 14-Juillet, and the summer market is a sell-out. What better time and place for the first notes of Jazz à Andernos 2025 to ring out? Aminata, the singer of Seeds, is announcing a concert saluting women in the blues. The kickoff to three days of jazz in all its forms is a fitting one.

A few hours later, there were still people there for the inauguration, including a member of parliament and a mayor. "Jazz will last as long as people listen with their feet rather than their ears," quoted Jean-Yves Rosazza. Dissertation possible.

Immediately after, the Gujan-based Wawe Jazz Band upped the volume and groove a notch, traipsing from New Orleans to Gershwin. Then, they headed to the Esplanade de la Jetée, where fifteen minutes before the concert began, there were only about thirty impatient spectators. Fifteen minutes later, programmer Eric Coignat could breathe a sigh of relief, as usual: the square was soon filled with a thousand spectators.

This Sunday again

Flashback to the fifties with Flora Estel and her killer quintet: the group wanders through the repertoire of Louis Prima, "king of the swingers" juggling between Vegas and New Orleans. 10:15 p.m.: we put on our sweaters, the sun has gone to set but we stay and we do well: the furious and sharp Flyin'Saucers Gumbo Special send a hell of a wood, on the borders of Mississippi, rhythm & blues and funk. "My hip prosthesis is nicely shaken but holds up," laughs the fidgety André.

This Saturday afternoon, the orchestra of the Andernos music school was in the spotlight, while the talented Bordeaux Brass set off from the esplanade for a stroll of which they have the secret.

This Sunday, the feast continues with Monique Thomas quintet at 10:45 a.m. in the Louis-David garden, YVI duo and P'Mbo at noon on the esplanade de la Jetée. Grappelli my love at 6:30 p.m. on the esplanade de la Jetée. Fabien Mary quartet at 8:45 p.m. then Tyreek Mc Dole at 8:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on the Bétey beach. Blues train at 9 p.m. on the esplanade de la Jetée.
