Toyota Prius, don't forget it

Since drivers have become all about SUVs, the Prius has fallen off the radar. Toyota's sedan, a pioneer of electrification, deserves more than critical acclaim. Launching in the fall of 2023, the fifth generation is particularly accomplished. Its highly aerodynamic lines, based on new proportions, have never been more attractive. Around a wheelbase increased by 50 mm, the length is reduced by 46 mm and the height by 50 mm. The cutaway rear and the windshield set back and sloping in line with the sloping front hood are the main characteristics of the silhouette.

Consequences of the architecture: the panoramic windshield and the large rear window ensure remarkable visibility; the dashboard displays a depth that we thought was a thing of the past. Completely redesigned, the presentation aims for simplification. The Prius partially achieves this. While the instrument cluster pushed to the base of the windshield, facing the driver, contributes to ergonomics, too many functions require using the steering wheel. This is the case for the driving aids, which are really tedious to deactivate.

Generous rear legroom and a mediocre trunk volume (284 l) complete the picture of a Prius that has made its revolution with a power output of 223 hp. Pick-ups are always comfortable thanks to the boost of the 163 hp electric machine. To top it all off, whenever possible, the decidedly intelligent system switches to the 13.6 kWh battery. It allows nearly 70 km without consuming a drop of gasoline. Another quality: the lowered center of gravity prevents the body roll inherent in SUVs. As for the weight, it does not exceed 1.6 tons.
