Jazz in Bordeaux: Nasheet Waits, a New York figure at the Cité du Vin

This time, she invites a drummer who has been active for thirty years and has played with, among others, Ron Carter, Branford Marsalis, and Émile Parisien. In this case, Nasheet Waits comes in a duo with his regular pianist, Orrin Evans, in a formula offering maximum freedom. But this shouldn't be free jazz, but rather what follows bebop: music that is rhythmically and harmonically complex but not totally unbridled.
To this end, the duo will also be joined on several tracks by guitarist Marc Ducret, a leading figure in the French avant-garde. The concert is also expected to include readings by Martinican poet Frantz Fanon, a pioneer of Third World thought. Nasheet Waits dedicated a record to him in 2013 on the renowned Rogue Art label.
