Canadian passport ranked 8th strongest in the world

A ranking places the Canadian passport as the eighth most powerful travel document in the world, according to the London-based firm Henley & Partners.
The most recent edition of the Henley Passport Index , released on July 22, places Canada in eighth place, tied with the United Arab Emirates and Estonia.
This index from citizenship firm Henley & Partners is based on data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and ranks passports according to the number of destinations accessible without a visa each quarter.
This means Canadian passport holders can travel to 184 countries without a visa. The Canadian passport has dropped down the rankings, from where it previously held seventh place and granted access to 188 visa-free destinations in January.
Canada's travel document, however, continues to outperform the US passport, which fell to tenth place in July 2025.
The Canadian passport surpassed that of the United States for the first time in January 2025 since the Henley & Partners index was created in 2006.
The United States could drop out of the top 10 in the coming months.
In 2014, the United States shared first place with the United Kingdom.
Singapore continues to dominate the ranking, with access to nearly 193 countries. At the bottom of the ranking is Afghanistan, which only allows access to 25 countries.
