San Sebastián's largest cathedral comes to life with a video mapping, music, and history show.

San Sebastián's largest cathedral comes to life with a video mapping, music, and history show.

The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd majestically presides over the center of San Sebastián . It is the largest religious building in the city, and together with the Koldo Mitxelena cultural center and the Post Office building, it forms a beautiful ensemble, with its tower, located above the entrance portico, standing out thanks to its 75-meter-high, spire-like structure. In fact, it can be seen from almost every point in the capital. Perhaps for this reason, it has been chosen to host one of the most impressive immersive shows in Europe, which has captivated more than 500,000 spectators in cities such as Paris and Bordeaux .

The Guipuzcoan architect Manuel Echave was commissioned to build this neo-Gothic work, which was inaugurated in 1897. Today, from Wednesday to Saturday, it is transformed into a true temple of light, live music and emotion as the stage for the audiovisual show Luminiscence , transforming the cathedral into a spectacle that combines 360° video mapping, immersive music and visual narrative.

The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, whose diocese celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, has a rectangular and symmetrical floor plan in the shape of a Latin cross and three naves, as well as a transept and presbytery. It was built in ashlar with stones from the quarries of Monte Igeldo and features numerous decorative elements, including stained glass windows, gargoyles, and pinnacles.

Added to all this are twelve state-of-the-art laser projection units, strategically distributed throughout the temple, and a speaker system that surrounds the audience for unprecedented sound immersion, along with three successful choirs.

The show is divided into four acts ('The Elevation of a Chimera', 'Lights and Splendors', 'The Echo of the Times' and 'Eternize') that tell the story of the temple: from how San Sebastián was a commercial port that Napoleonic troops destroyed, through its reconstruction and how the Buen Pastor became a cathedral.
