Dream vacation at a luxury all-inclusive in Punta Cana: this is the experience at one of the island's best resorts.

Dream vacation at a luxury all-inclusive in Punta Cana: this is the experience at one of the island's best resorts.
There are many reasons why Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic , is one of the most important tourist destinations in the entire Caribbean. These include its climate, landscapes, and biodiversity. But above all, it is its hotel offering that makes it stand out from the other destinations in the region with which it competes.
Over the past few decades, Punta Cana has become synonymous not only with sun and beach tourism, but also with enormous hotel complexes and, above all, with the all-inclusive concept.
Everywhere you look, all-inclusive resorts dominate the island. They come in all shapes and sizes: huge or more intimate, family-friendly or adults-only, affordable or luxurious. But all offer the guarantee of traveling, relaxing, and enjoying yourself without the worries of a trip, such as what to eat, what to drink, or where to go without overspending.
So, my visit to these lands took me to one of the most important all-inclusive hotels on the island: the Hyatt Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana. Located on Playa Bávaro (one of the areas of the island with the greatest tourist growth), this adults-only resort, with 639 luxury suites, combines the all-inclusive model with what the chain has called Unlimited-Luxury.
This isn't just any all-inclusive . At this resort, the experience is luxurious (though not ostentatious). The rooms are generously sized, the cuisine is luxurious, and it boasts a complex of interconnected pools.
It's a place to worry about nothing, except perhaps where to dine, from the eight on-site restaurant options. Otherwise, all you have to do is enjoy the unlimited selection of luxury drinks or the included 24-hour room service. All this without considering the recreational areas.
Perhaps one of the main attractions of Hyatt's Secrets concept is that it usually comes hand in hand with its almost twin brother, the Dreams hotels, which have the same Unlimited-Luxury principle, but not only for adults, but also for the whole family.
Thus, the Hyatt Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana is interconnected with the Hyatt Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana (which adds 486 additional luxury suites to the complex). Guests can go from one to the other and enjoy the restaurants, beaches, and pools of both. However, children are not allowed at Secrets, while Dreams has activities and spaces designed for children, as well as a water park open to guests staying at both hotels.

Varied offer
Punta Cana is no ordinary destination, as evidenced by the 10 million travelers who visited last year . This is partly due to its extensive hotel offering, which includes the world's leading chains, primarily all-inclusive hotels.
It's no coincidence that Secrets alone has five resorts on the island, and Dreams has another eight, the most recent being Playa Esmeralda, which will open in the coming months. All of this, not counting the other brands in the Inclusive Collection.
In this regard, in conversation with EL TIEMPO, Antonio Fungairino, director of development for the Americas at Hyatt Inclusive Collection , explained the reasons why the Dominican Republic has been able to consolidate itself as one of the biggest competitors in the all-inclusive market: “The important thing about this destination is the continuity of tourism initiatives, which have not been interrupted from one government to another but have shown consistency, the support they have had from the tax perspective, as well as the emphasis on training people in tourism issues to provide the best service.”
He added: “The Dominican Republic is the country that has done the best in the world in terms of its focus on tourism and continuity, because it hasn't stopped growing in that regard. This is enhanced by the quality of its people, the Dominican people, and their attitude. Twenty years ago, there was that attitude; now, training has been added, English has improved dramatically, and service has improved considerably.”
For his part, Fernando Fernández, VP of Development for Latin America and the Caribbean at Hyatt Inclusive Collection , believes that this region has served as a laboratory for perfecting the all-inclusive concept, to the point that the chain has become synonymous with this service: “Here in Punta Cana, our first all-inclusive hotel was born. This is where we have been modifying the model until reaching the level of excellence. And the Dominican Republic has embraced that concept. And if you compare it to the rest of the Caribbean, the island that has grown the most in number of hotels is the Dominican Republic. And why? Because there has been political stability and security for investors.”
If you go:
  • Punta Cana is an excellent option for enjoying sun and beach activities. However, the type of tourism offered by the area's resorts isn't typically the most traditional.
  • If you want to experience local culture and culture, it's best to take advantage of your stay in Punta Cana to book excursions to Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, where you can enjoy truly local experiences, cuisine, and products at a lower price than in Punta Cana.
  • Be sure to try Dominican rum, as well as the traditional 'mamajuana,' a traditional drink made from herbs, roots, and bark in rum, red wine, and honey.
