Cruise tourism in Yucatán increases by 130%

The Deep-Sea Port of Progreso is positioning itself as one of the country's main maritime destinations, after registering significant growth in cruise ship arrivals during the first four months of 2025.
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism Development (Sefotur), between January and April of this year, Progreso welcomed 74 cruise ships with a total of 200,383 passengers . This figure represents an impressive increase of 42 vessels (131%) and 105,232 additional visitors compared to the same period in 2024.
This increase represents a 110.6% increase in the number of maritime visitors , consolidating Progreso as a key gateway to the natural, cultural, and culinary treasures of the Mayan world. In April alone, the port received 26,135 passengers, 27.2% more than the same month last year.
This growth is a direct result of the strategic actions promoted by the state government to position Yucatán in the cruise tourism sector. These include promoting the destination at national and international tourism fairs , improving infrastructure, and strengthening maritime connectivity.
Additionally, the State Government is promoting the expansion of the Deep Sea Port of Progreso , with an investment that increased from 7.9 billion to 12.225 billion pesos .
According to Sefotur projections, the arrival of 158 cruise ships is expected by the end of 2025, which could mean more than 400,000 international passengers exploring the attractions of the Mayan territory.
