Andalusia's 'little Mykonos': the beautiful village of white houses and crystal-clear waters with a fishing tradition

Almost everyone has dreamed of spending idyllic summer days in Mykonos or Santorini, but traveling to these well-known Cycladic paradises can be quite expensive during the summer season. What not many people know is that you don't have to leave Spain to discover a place very similar to the Greek islands. In the southeast of Andalusia, in the province of Almería, there is a small town that has nothing to envy: the town of La Isleta del Moro.
This beautiful hamlet belongs to the municipality of Níjar and has barely 200 registered inhabitants, but its location in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park and the tranquility that surrounds it make the town an oasis of tranquility. The town's fishing heritage and history, closely linked to the Barbary pirates, can still be seen in every corner of the town center.
Isleta del Moro, the hidden treasure of Cabo de GataThis small Almería hamlet is tucked away near an imposing rock on the shores of the Mediterranean. It owes its name to the fact that centuries ago it was a common refuge for Ottoman corsairs sailing the waters from North Africa. The tiny island of the same name , which rises in front of the town center, was of utmost importance during these pirate raids and is today one of the most photographed spots in the town.
The town center is filled with whitewashed houses that transport visitors to the picturesque, winding streets of Mykonos's villages. The seaside spirit adds even more charm to this spectacular village, where the colors contrast to create a postcard-worthy image. It's no wonder that more and more tourists are coming to discover it.
In the town, you can also enjoy breathtaking natural wonders such as Peñón Blanco Beach, ideal for relaxing for a few hours during the summer, with its fine, golden sand lapped by crystal-clear waters. Furthermore, if you visit La Isleta del Moro, be sure to climb the extraordinary Mirador de la Amatista, located atop one of the cliffs surrounding the town, offering stunning panoramic views.
How to get to La Isleta del MoroThe village of La Isleta del Moro is just a 40-minute drive from the city of Almería. From the provincial capital, which is 50 kilometers away, take the A-7 , then turn onto the AL-3112 and, after that, repeat the same route along the AL-3108 and the AL-4200, from which you should take the detour that leads to the town center.
